LEE ..WHY I RIDE FOR AUTISM.

As a relatively new rider, after finally committing to getting my licence, I spent some time looking for interesting rides or days out that I could do on my motorcycle without feeling to overwhelmed, something I’d wanted to do for years. After a bit of research I stumbled across SGBFA (SUPERGOOD BIKERS FOR AUTISM).

The values behind the organisation immediately resonated with me as an AuDHD rider,

I decided to take the plunge and signed up for RYKAS 2025. The prospect of attending on my own was very dauting, not knowing anyone and potentially being surrounded by large crowds, it was genuinely terrifying for me, those AUDHD rider out there are most likely relate to that feeling.

When the day arrived, it was tricky but everything changed after the ride, I spent some time chatting with Jess, Ash and Chris who are part of the Ambassador group and altough it was a little awkward at times, I knew I’d found a community of people like me.

Not long afterwards, I joined my second ride.

As a new face up north at the first ride out of 2026, I was kindly looked after by Big Steve, who was representing the community as an ambassador.

He made a genuine effort to include me, checking in and helping me feel like part of the group rather than someone standing on the outside looking in. It might have seemed like a small gesture to him, but it made a huge difference to me. That ride cemented the feeling that this was something special and secured me as a long-term supporter of the community.

Fast forward through more rides in 2026, and I can honestly say I’ve never felt more welcomed into a community of people who truly understand and support one another.

I ride so that the next person searching for the same things I was searching for can find someone to start their own awkward conversation with.
